Held on two successive days at Gibson Ranch in Sunland CA, Shootout for a Cure raised over $2000.00 for Parkinsons & Cancer research charities.

Mounted Shooting contestants competed using .45 caliber single action revolvers. Each revolver was loaded with five rounds of specially prepared blank ammunition which were fired at targets (balloons) that were set in a variety of patterns to test the rider’s speed, accuracy and horsemanship. Scoring was based on elapsed time and a five second penalty was assessed for each missed target.

There are seperate divisions for Novice, Intermediate, and Expert Men, and Women and Juniors. There is also a Pee-Wee division for children under 12, who run a modified course without firing.

Contestants competed in a rifle stage as well. The rules are the same with a rifle being substituted for the single action revolvers.
